Incredible Birthday Getaway at Ichingo

We visited Ichingo Chobe River Lodge for my birthday, and what an unforgettable experience it was! From start to finish, everything was simply perfect. The rooms were extremely comfortable and thoughtfully equipped with air conditioning—although we didn’t need it in May, it was still a nice touch. The beds were honestly the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. A special shoutout to our guide, Nicolas—he was outstanding! Extremely knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely passionate about what he does. Whether we were out fishing or on a game viewing cruise, he went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well-informed. His knowledge of birds and wildlife was phenomenal. If you're visiting, I highly recommend requesting him! The lodge staff, especially Kennedy and Sonia, were always there with a smile—ready to help, top up a glass, or share a good chat and laugh. Their hospitality truly made us feel at home. And Matilda—your food was absolutely delicious! Every meal was a treat, and now that we’re back home, we’re definitely in need of a diet (worth it though!). I would highly recommend Ichingo Chobe River Lodge to everyone. We’re already planning a return trip with family. Thank you to the entire team for making this such a special and memorable getaway!

An excellent break

I loved the quiet setting. Birdwatching from the veranda. (Photographed an African Finfoot!) Fun fishing. The staff was attentive. Good food. The staff cleverly arranged interaction between guests without being intrusive, we made new friends.

Could not have been better!

My wife and I enjoyed three nights at this excellent location. Effectively as well as a room and all the facilities you are allocated exclusive use of a boat and guide. Where you go what you do is really up to you. We did a couple of game drives (in the boat) along the edge of the Chobe park. The exclusive use of the boat meant you could spend as much time as you wanted watching the herds of elephant and other animals. The guide was very knowledgeable pointing out all the bird types as we cruised. Most impressive moment was watching a group of 20 elephants swim the river from a seat in a boat alongside them. We are not fishermen but we enjoyed a couple of fishing trips and actually caught a reasonable catfish. Some at the camp spent every morning and evening fishing. The accommodation was simple and comfortable. Food was plentiful and good. The deserts were always excellent. Choice was naturally limited in such a small camp but we were always satisfied. One night was a communal Brai and eating but on other nights we had our own table - which we quite like. Rooms had a view of the river and the restaurant and bar offered river views - including resident crocodiles Staff were all excellent and helped make the experience enjoyable. The cost was quite reasonable especially when you realise you have exclusive use of a guide and boat during your stay. We were met on time, guided through the border crossings and generally looked after.

They never fail to impress!

This was my third trip to Ichingo and I decided to do it alone. They never fail to impress. In fact I must say that i cannot find one thing i could even think about where i was not happy. They always go totally out of their way to keep one smiling during your stay. Great to see Cassius in his new position as host and a fine job he is doing and as i could not use him as my guide Robert was the man and a fantastic guide he was. To the management team and all the staff I say thank you and keep up the fantastic work. To Megan and Chris at Maplanga who handled my booking so superbly - thank you as well. I will be back!!!!!
